Local community leaders have been keeping busy, as members of the Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunset partnered with five Rotary Clubs in two countries on three different humanitarian projects. It's all part of the World Community Service progam which brings assistance from Rotarians in one part of the globe to another. Rotary Clubs are currently thriving in 168 countries. The Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunset recently coordinated a project between seven- to eight-year-old RotaKids Club at Sandpiper Shores Elementary School and children sponsored by Boca's twin club in Niteroi-Leste, Brazil. The project was designed to promote world understanding by having the children draw pictures of “how I see the world today”. The pictures from Brazil were sent to Boca Raton and the pictures drawn at Sandpiper Shores were sent to Brazil. Through this exchange, the children got a chance to view the world through the eyes of others. This project was coordinated by Douglas Heizer with assistance from Debbie Gerusky and Jacqueline Wiesenfeld. |

A year has passed since Daniel Alfonso arrived in Boca Raton. But it seems like a lifetime ago to the 18-year-old Brazilian.
“I see the world with different eyes now, and with an open mind,” he commented in a telephone interview from his home in the small town of Lins, about six hours from the metropolis of Sao Paulo. |
